Says it all. Adventures of a first time mom with her ever growing little boy named Ziggy. Doing this to chronicle our little boy's life and to share whatever I can to other moms. I know it's always helpful hearing firsthand experiences from other moms, this is my part :)

Curiosity burned the hand..

I mean it literally.

My little one was hanging out with one of my sisters who was chatting with our house helper, who was ironing clothes (lol -- that's a long string).

Ziggy is definitely aware that there are certain things he shouldn't touch or go to because they're dangerous. He knows what dangerous means now.

For some reason he really wanted to test our warnings so while the iron was idle, put upright, he decided to GRAB it!

Oh the wailing and whining is endless!

He has burnt all but one finger in his right hand, they're not too big but they hurt for a 4-year old of course. Since it's been a long time we've had a kid burnt (lol that didn't sound right) I didn't know exactly what the right thing to do.

There was my mom to the rescue with her "magic toothpaste" remedy. For some reason that's the first aid I've gotten used to while growing up only finding out later on in my adult life that it's actually not a good idea. It might worsen the burn or infect it.

Soon as I got my son I placed his hand under running water --- NOT ICE! I learned that the hard way :p The water washed away my mom's magic toothpaste remedy and calmed the little one a bit. But of course nothing takes away the pain of burnt skin. I scrambled for first aid instructions online but unfortunately, there really isn't any remedy for it but running water for about 5 minutes and well, leaving it alone.

Good thing we had ibuprofen for kids so somehow it alleviated the pain, match that with a disney animated movie and sooner rather than later, he's forgotten the pain.

We wrapped his hand in gauze loosely and he fell asleep soon. the following day, there were no more complaints, he was actually playing happily already.

ahhh kids. You can keep warning them but they will always have that urge -- curiousity.

Missing being Pregnant

For a few months already I've been seeing or hearing news about friends and family getting pregnant. I suddenly missed that feeling. It's such a wonderful feeling.

I know that right now I'm in the middle of a marital dilemma/problem/situation, and it's definitely not wise to be having a child (in any means!) right now. For some reason, after about 2 years of my husband asking me for a baby girl (and me saying no for a lot of different reasons), I'm the one who wants one and well he's the one who doesn't even know if he wants to stay :(

What are the odds.... :(

Everytime I see a little girl, especially since my little kiddo started going to school, and I keep seeing little girls running around in cute little dresses with their bouncy black, brown or blonde curly locks with all the possible cuteness in the world ... i have been sooo yearning for one!

I have been craving for some peace and quiet around the house because this little boy's becoming well.. a BOY. Rowdy, noisy, unpredictable, imaginative and unstoppable!

I know girls can be very much the same, but well...i know they won't be as unstoppable. :p If she takes on MY genes.. hahah my son obviously took on his dad's genes and everything else, save for my eyes.

*sigh* when will God bless us with a better marriage and a little girl. I'm praying for the first one first.. obviously :p

your prayers or whatever you do to wish for things to happen are also welcome! :p

Don't Tell Me What To Do...

The other day while the little rascal was jumping up and down the bed and throwing things to the wall (including poor ol' Woody & Buzz) I reprimanded him and told him NOT to jump.

He didn't seem to hear me so I repeated myself.

Would you believe it he shushed me and put his hand up to me as if to say wait.

The next words were something I NEVER Expected to hear...

"Don't tell me what to do" he said it pretty calmly and carefully so I didn't know what to make of it!

I wanted to both laugh and get mad at him for saying that to his mom!

Then again I realized, he probably doesn't understand the impact of those words especially when a child is saying it to his/her parent. I honestly didn't know what to say. It was difficult to regain composure and calmly tell him you are telling him the right thing to do and that from now, until he has a better understanding of right from wrong, mommy will say what he has to do.

I couldn't wrap my head around it. I tried to think of places or shows maybe movies he's watched where he heard those words, but I'm pretty sure there's none especially since we're together everyday for the past 3 weeks. Then I realized he probably heard it from another kid in school.

You can't control everything your child hears, watches or sees!

*sigh* kids do say the darndest things...

Parenting a parent (huh?)

How many times have you irked at how your mum would tell you how to be a parent??

I've had so much of those the past week when my child was sick and ooooohhhh I sometimes just couldn't stand it!

For a few months at a time, my parents were in Australia leaving me and my sisters alone most of the time since long distance phone calls were expensiv and they wouldn't bother learning how to IM

Whenever that was true, i was a peaceful and happy mommy even when my child was sick. Sure, it's nice to have another parent nearby when things like these come up especially since I've only been a mother for as long as my child has been living but, it's only nice if they only tell you when asked.

My dearest mother on the other hand would be bugging me every hour to ask how his fever is and would constantly ask me to bring my son to the doctor after only 24 hours of on and off fever. She of all people in the house should know (after 4 kids!!) that we don't have to bring them to the doctor unless the fever's been persisitent the past 72 hours OR there's an accompanying symptom (aside from colds) -- none of those were true so I didn't really panic as much as she did.

Sure her concern was touching but you do get irritated at times. A part of you feels as if you're being understimated as a mom, a part of you feels as if you're completely ignored at all!

When I do leave my kid to her for even just an hour when I need to run errands or go to church, I'd find out she's done a dozen other things already to the kid -- mostly non-detrimental to his health, but still annoying to the mom

ayayayayay..

you know that the intentions are pure and just concerned for their one and only godson (and only "son" for that matter), but how do you stop them and assure them you DO CARE for your son!

I hope I won't do this to my son or (possible daughter?) when I become a grandma..

When he's not running around

Since saturday, my little boy has been having fever on and off. He was still a bit hyper early saturday until my mom noticed he felt a bit warm.

I checked on him soon after and he was indeed having a fever. Come sunday night, his fever was higher than the normal fever we usually just wait out.

he also wasn't in the mood for jumping and running around. Here's how he was sunday night all the way til monday morning...

A spoonful of Sugar doesn't work!!

Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down... -- Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins said to help the kids down some disgusting tasting medicine -- a spoonful of sugar will do. Or maybe even honey or chocolate syrup. I've been trying that and more to get my son to drink his medicine and at least lower that rising temperature he has... but none of them work!

I used to just add the medicine to his milk, but he doesn't want to drink milk :( which is really alarming because he NEVER passes on his milk any time of the day.

Then I tried giving it to him with some chocolate drink, he threw up.

Tried giving it to him straight through that tiny measuring cup... he'd squirm and scream.

Lastly we tried using a medicine dropper to directly put it in his mouth. It worked... for about 5 minutes until he threw up again :(

Oh man. I know medicine isn't candy, but how oh how can I get him to drink his medicine?? He desperately needs it and I don't want to resort to a suppository. sheesh.. he's uncomfortable enough.

help!!
