Says it all. Adventures of a first time mom with her ever growing little boy named Ziggy. Doing this to chronicle our little boy's life and to share whatever I can to other moms. I know it's always helpful hearing firsthand experiences from other moms, this is my part :)

Parenting a parent (huh?)

How many times have you irked at how your mum would tell you how to be a parent??

I've had so much of those the past week when my child was sick and ooooohhhh I sometimes just couldn't stand it!

For a few months at a time, my parents were in Australia leaving me and my sisters alone most of the time since long distance phone calls were expensiv and they wouldn't bother learning how to IM

Whenever that was true, i was a peaceful and happy mommy even when my child was sick. Sure, it's nice to have another parent nearby when things like these come up especially since I've only been a mother for as long as my child has been living but, it's only nice if they only tell you when asked.

My dearest mother on the other hand would be bugging me every hour to ask how his fever is and would constantly ask me to bring my son to the doctor after only 24 hours of on and off fever. She of all people in the house should know (after 4 kids!!) that we don't have to bring them to the doctor unless the fever's been persisitent the past 72 hours OR there's an accompanying symptom (aside from colds) -- none of those were true so I didn't really panic as much as she did.

Sure her concern was touching but you do get irritated at times. A part of you feels as if you're being understimated as a mom, a part of you feels as if you're completely ignored at all!

When I do leave my kid to her for even just an hour when I need to run errands or go to church, I'd find out she's done a dozen other things already to the kid -- mostly non-detrimental to his health, but still annoying to the mom

ayayayayay..

you know that the intentions are pure and just concerned for their one and only godson (and only "son" for that matter), but how do you stop them and assure them you DO CARE for your son!

I hope I won't do this to my son or (possible daughter?) when I become a grandma..

When he's not running around

Since saturday, my little boy has been having fever on and off. He was still a bit hyper early saturday until my mom noticed he felt a bit warm.

I checked on him soon after and he was indeed having a fever. Come sunday night, his fever was higher than the normal fever we usually just wait out.

he also wasn't in the mood for jumping and running around. Here's how he was sunday night all the way til monday morning...

A spoonful of Sugar doesn't work!!

Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down... -- Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins said to help the kids down some disgusting tasting medicine -- a spoonful of sugar will do. Or maybe even honey or chocolate syrup. I've been trying that and more to get my son to drink his medicine and at least lower that rising temperature he has... but none of them work!

I used to just add the medicine to his milk, but he doesn't want to drink milk :( which is really alarming because he NEVER passes on his milk any time of the day.

Then I tried giving it to him with some chocolate drink, he threw up.

Tried giving it to him straight through that tiny measuring cup... he'd squirm and scream.

Lastly we tried using a medicine dropper to directly put it in his mouth. It worked... for about 5 minutes until he threw up again :(

Oh man. I know medicine isn't candy, but how oh how can I get him to drink his medicine?? He desperately needs it and I don't want to resort to a suppository. sheesh.. he's uncomfortable enough.

help!!

When Little Boys are Sick

My aunts would always tell me how my late grandmother would've enjoyed having Ziggy, my son, around. My grandmother always loved having little boys around, especially little boys as hyper and energetic as this one. Her only reason is that it's easy to know or detect when they're sick.

Well, true enough, it has proven helpful to me in detecting if Ziggy's feeling anything.

Today, he wasn't as hyper as he would usually be. He started lying down and watching TV around 9am and then when my mom hugged him, my mom told me he felt kinda warm. When I checked and he is HOT! He started lying down, his eyes started to droop and then he asked for his milk.

He was still a little playful for a few more minutes until he finally succomb to the bed and slept for a good 2 hours. Gave him paracetamol with his milk and his fever subsided.

Then he was Hyper again! How and why should you stop a kid wanting to play even if you know they just came from a fever?? *sigh*

We went to do the groceries and he was running around and he didn't feel warm at all, then we had dinner. Towards the end of the dinner he was starting to look different again and his eyes were getting droopy. When I felt him he was getting warm again. Until we got the bill and he said he wanted to sit on my lap. He was HOT again!

Good thing I had a bottle of milk with paracetamol for a just in case...

He's in bed now after drinking the milk and he's a bit irritable, he woke up a few minutes ago whining about his sweat, which was caused by the paracetamol (which is good!) and hopefully he gets a good night's sleep.

I really am praying this is nothing serious because it's been a long time since he got sick and he has been hospitalized twice already before -- both before his birthday (2nd and 3rd). I'm also a bit scared because it's Dengue Fever season. Definitely one of the most traumatic experiences my family has had -- 2 youngest sisters on ICU for this virus and one almost died.

Of course I'm praying hard that's not his case.. or anything else serious.

Do pray with me that this is just a regular fever growing kids go through... :) The house is not the same without his hyper-active, hyper-drive self.
