Says it all. Adventures of a first time mom with her ever growing little boy named Ziggy. Doing this to chronicle our little boy's life and to share whatever I can to other moms. I know it's always helpful hearing firsthand experiences from other moms, this is my part :)

Curiosity burned the hand..

I mean it literally.

My little one was hanging out with one of my sisters who was chatting with our house helper, who was ironing clothes (lol -- that's a long string).

Ziggy is definitely aware that there are certain things he shouldn't touch or go to because they're dangerous. He knows what dangerous means now.

For some reason he really wanted to test our warnings so while the iron was idle, put upright, he decided to GRAB it!

Oh the wailing and whining is endless!

He has burnt all but one finger in his right hand, they're not too big but they hurt for a 4-year old of course. Since it's been a long time we've had a kid burnt (lol that didn't sound right) I didn't know exactly what the right thing to do.

There was my mom to the rescue with her "magic toothpaste" remedy. For some reason that's the first aid I've gotten used to while growing up only finding out later on in my adult life that it's actually not a good idea. It might worsen the burn or infect it.

Soon as I got my son I placed his hand under running water --- NOT ICE! I learned that the hard way :p The water washed away my mom's magic toothpaste remedy and calmed the little one a bit. But of course nothing takes away the pain of burnt skin. I scrambled for first aid instructions online but unfortunately, there really isn't any remedy for it but running water for about 5 minutes and well, leaving it alone.

Good thing we had ibuprofen for kids so somehow it alleviated the pain, match that with a disney animated movie and sooner rather than later, he's forgotten the pain.

We wrapped his hand in gauze loosely and he fell asleep soon. the following day, there were no more complaints, he was actually playing happily already.

ahhh kids. You can keep warning them but they will always have that urge -- curiousity.

Kids and Clowns

I don't know about you but Clowns, freak me out! I don't know which started -- happy clowns that started to create phobias with kids, or just some really freaky clowns that were meant to scare.

I know there are quite a few movies that used clowns to freak the audience out -- err.. Stephen King's IT for example.

Since I was a kid, Clowns have always freaked me out, much like any huge mascot did... the difference is that while I was growing older, I grew fond of mascots and I realized they're just huge pile of cloth and cardboards and stuff worn by another person. Clowns on the other hand still freaked me out! which is funny because clowns ARE people with only make up and colorful clothes on.

Anyway, I'm saying this because last saturday was my youngest cousin's 7th birthday and her mom hired 2 clowns to host the program and well... half the kids ran to their mommies and daddies scared of the clowns!

In the end, they had to start the party with only umm less than 10 kids because the rest either stayed inside the house or went home (they were neighbors :p) instead. My older cousins -- the teens hahah -- had to "sub" for the other kids and played with the smaller ones because otherwise, it would've been boring.

I actually thought Ziggy would freak out too! But he didn't! I wasn't sure if his shades helped him (he wore his shades all throughout the party hahah) or he just didn't think clowns were freaky because he watches this show "Jojo Circus" at Playhouse Disney Channel.

He's actually cool with the clowns! :p

What is it with clowns??

Don't Tell Me What To Do...

The other day while the little rascal was jumping up and down the bed and throwing things to the wall (including poor ol' Woody & Buzz) I reprimanded him and told him NOT to jump.

He didn't seem to hear me so I repeated myself.

Would you believe it he shushed me and put his hand up to me as if to say wait.

The next words were something I NEVER Expected to hear...

"Don't tell me what to do" he said it pretty calmly and carefully so I didn't know what to make of it!

I wanted to both laugh and get mad at him for saying that to his mom!

Then again I realized, he probably doesn't understand the impact of those words especially when a child is saying it to his/her parent. I honestly didn't know what to say. It was difficult to regain composure and calmly tell him you are telling him the right thing to do and that from now, until he has a better understanding of right from wrong, mommy will say what he has to do.

I couldn't wrap my head around it. I tried to think of places or shows maybe movies he's watched where he heard those words, but I'm pretty sure there's none especially since we're together everyday for the past 3 weeks. Then I realized he probably heard it from another kid in school.

You can't control everything your child hears, watches or sees!

*sigh* kids do say the darndest things...

Talk about supermommy!

When we say super moms we usually associate it with moms balancing work, kids, husband and social life altogether in a well, graceful and maybe even elegant manner.

How about a 17 year old teenager with 7 kids?!? super mom in a different sense!

I read this here and was astounded! How can a 17 year old have 7 kids already?? As luck would have it (you decide wether it's good or bad luck), she had 2 sets of triplets! But Wait! there's more! all these births (can't say kids) are of different fathers.

Sheesh. Sometimes I don't know if I should be looking at her or the parents. She lives with her parents when she had her first child at the age of -- guess what? -- 14! That alone would've prompted the parents to do something. Then she had a set of triplets at age of 15, then another set at the age of 16!

The article talks about how contraceptives are not too easy to get by in Argentina, not enough government fundings. Somehow is the same here in the Philippines but not quite. I know condoms here are cheap and I'm pretty sure a lot of people are using them.

Furtheremore I'm pretty sure that after having one child, it often prompts the parents or the teenager herself to stop and learn from it...

Now I'm not up for abortion AT ALL, but I do support contraceptives no matter what the Philippine church says. It's preventive measures and it's just healthy and responsible.

It's disappointing and sometimes disheartening knowing that she's still a kid herself and her children are oh so cute but how will she ever be able to feed them after her parents or other relatives can't anymore. Sheesh, she looked like she's just their older sister!
